Redstone, Colorado

Located in the heart of the Elk Mountains, Redstone is surrounded by towering, red sandstone cliffs. The historic town of Redstone was established in the late 19th century by John Cleveland Osgood as part of a coal mining enterprise. Improving the living conditions for the miners, Osgood constructed 84 colorful Swiss-style chalets for family housing, plus an elegant 20 room inn, now known as the Redstone Inn, for the bachelors.

Today, the town remains a historical treasure. The Inn, open year-round to guests, and many of the chalets lining Main Street survive today and have been beautifully renovated, giving the town a charming character. Osgood’s private residence, a tudor-style castle, built in 1897, has been preserved through the years. Now known as the Redstone Castle, the historic gem has been reopened for public tours. Even the entrance to the quaint town is marked by a row of iconic beehive coke ovens that were originally used for the coal mining operation.

Redstone offers boutique shopping, antiques, a general store, restaurants and a spa. Recreation opportunities abound including hiking, fishing, rock & ice climbing, horseback riding, hunting and a free ice skating rink in the winter.
